National Museum of Iran in Tehran

 

The National Museum of Iran is the most important archeological museum and the first official museum in Iran. This museum contains works from the oldest period of human life to the present day. These objects, which are the result of scientific and archaeological excavations, have been exhibited in the form of two museums of Ancient Iran and the museum of the Islamic era.

 

 

 

Andre Godard, the great French archeologist and architect designed the National Museum of Iran and two Iranian architects executed it. The design of the Museum of Ancient Iran is inspired by Kasra Sassanid Palace. Even the way the bricks are arranged on the inner surfaces of the porch and the surrounding bodies is inspired from Iranian architecture.

We recommend that you start your visit to this museum from the second floor, because in this section you will see objects from the oldest period of human life, Paleolithic period to the end of the fourth millennium BC. After traveling in the prehistoric era, by going to the first floor, you enter the world of history and civilization, and in fact the historical era. In this category, works from the end of the fourth millennium BC, the beginning of the use of writing until the end of the Sassanid period are exhibited.

 

 

 

The museum of Islamic era is located on three floors, next to the Museum of Ancient Iran. You can see the works and objects of the museum in the first and second floors, which are arranged in seven halls and 170 showcases according to the historical schedule. Your visit to the Islamic Museum starts from the second floor. This floor includes halls from the beginning of Islam, the Seljuk era and the Ilkhanids. The first floor of the Museum of Islamic Art includes Quran Hall, Timurid, Safavid, Afshar, Zand and Qajar eras halls.

 

Reza Abbasi Museum

One of the most interesting museums in Tehran that has its own fans, is the Reza Abbasi Museum. This museum is an exhibition of furniture and home decorations, which has been considered by the authorities due to its architectural features and location, and it has also been purchased from its owner. This museum was opened to the public in 1956 by Farah Pahlavi. This three-story museum is considered as a small example of the Museum of Ancient Iran, because the works in it are related to the second millennium BC to the early twentieth century and the Qajar period. Of the 50,000 works housed in the museum, only 700 are open to the public, and the rest are temporarily on display at exhibitions or special events. Just like the Museum of Ancient Iran in Tehran, the historical process of this museum starts from the upper floors.

 

 

Jewelry Museum of Tehran

Jewelry Museum is located in front of Turkish Embassy on Ferdowsi Street in Tehran and belongs to the Central Bank of Iran. This treasure tells about the ancient history and culture of Iran. The museum is categorized into 36 sections. There are so many masterpieces of jewelry from the past centuries in this museum. The important point is that this place is open only from Saturday to Tuesdays from 14:00 till 16:30.

 

 

Abgineh Museum of Tehran (Glassworks Museum)

This museum is the first and only specialized museum of glass and pottery in the country and one of the most visited museums in Tehran. Abgineh Museum is located in the house of Ghavam Al-Saltanah, one of the famous politicians of the Qajar and Pahlavi period, in 30th Tir Street.

 

 

The design of this museum was entrusted to Iranian engineers and the design of showcases and interior architecture was entrusted to the famous Austrian architect and engineer named Hans Hollein. In designing the museum, Hans was inspired by prominent Iranian historical monuments such as Thatcher Palace, Persepolis columns, Safavid arches and the Kaaba of Zoroaster, and although the showcases and the general space of the museum are designed in a modern way; But this modern design does not damage the overall space of the building, which is a traditional building, and is in perfect harmony with it.

 

There are more than 2,000 pieces of historical pottery and glass works in Abgineh Museum. The most valuable glasswork of this museum is the glass cylinders which belong to the second millennium BC and have been obtained from the Choghaznabil temple in Khuzestan Province.

 

 

Moghadam Museum in Tehran

Moghadam House dates back to the late Qajar period and belonged to Master Mohsen Moghadam. Professor Mohsen Moghadam was one of the first Iranian archaeologists to collect valuable objects at home during his lifetime with his French wife. Following the celebrations of the 2500th anniversary, he was one of the historical advisors of this celebration and also the logo of the University of Tehran is one of his memorable designs.

 

This building is decorated with the unique tiles from the Qajar period and parts of Iranian art are displayed in it. After traveling to Spain and modeling the pool and fountains of Al-Hamra Garden (a garden left over from the early days of Islamic Spain), Dr. Moghaddam built a pool around which several old fountains sprinkle water into the pool. This valuable house has been named the most beautiful and valuable house in the world by many writers and visitors. In designing and building this house, the principles of Iranian architecture such as Iranian pond, Iranian colored glass and the principles of Persian garden atmosphere have been considered.

 

Negarestan Garden Museum
